The construction of the building on the seafront was entrusted
by the Figuerola family, who lived in the house next door, for a
spinster sister. It is believed that both were built by Enric Sagnier
i Villavecchia (1858-1931), although this is unconfirmed, because
all the documents from were burnt during the Spanish Civil War.
From the Passeig de les Moreres where the main entrance is,
we can see how similar both houses are. Nowadays the building is
considered as an artistic/cultural heritage by the town council
of Caldes dEstrac.
When the owner died, the house passed under the control of a priest
from Premià de Mar. Later, Mingo, from Caldes dEstrac,
rented it as a hostel, that slowly became a music pub called Kalima.
This place had an unbelievable charm, and it is remembered throughout
the whole Maresme area.
We have kept the former name due to the high regard that the locals
held for the old pub, and also for the sea connotations of this
beautiful and infrequently known word. Kalima or calima has different
meanings, one of them being the fog that suddenly comes from the
sea, or the cork rings from the fishing nets. It is also the name
given to different places and lakes in Africa, as well as a reference
to a Greek poet. It is quite a suggestive name!
In the last period we have counted on the assistance of Duran &
Grau Arquitectes, architects that have restored the building committing
themselves to the renewable energies but also respecting the building
structure and its original features.
